Bruno Mars- Doo-Wops & Hooligans (Oct 5, 2010)

Lots of angelic-ly voiced pretty boy songs have somehow made it into my playlists here and there.  Mr. Mars is steadily finding a new home there soon.  I think the first time I ever heard any of his work was in the song “Billionaire” with Travie McCoy, lead of the group Gym Class Heroes.  (edit:  Also preformed “Nothing on You, with B.O.B.)  The song was very melodic and he seemed to be a perfect fit with rhythmic altos.  Nonetheless here is a young man among many making a name for himself in the music industry, but will this last?  Being the opinionated person of which  I quite often am, Mr. McCoy seems to be in a slum even though the song “Billionaire”, did really well on radio top song charts, the last album he released with his group GCH was less than appealing.  To be more specific it seemed rushed and not very in tune with their original sound.  Ok, so anyhow to continue on topic….

So not only is Mr. Mars named after a popular chocolate bar, he writes his own music for the most part to.  The popular single by Cee-Lo, was co-written by him.  His latest single “Just the way You Are”, is a very catchy tune that seems to sit well with the ladies and gets my foot tapping as well.  To wrap things up, I do hope to hear more good music coming from Bruno Mars in the future and hope he doesn’t get stuck on the “love-song” bandwagon for too long.  He’s got a great voice, a great sound.  Sorry for this  being a messy review.  I did feel the need to add some filler content, but definitely go download or purchase Doo-Wops & Hooligans on October 5 along with a tall bottle of Chardonnay for your lady friend.

This happens to be one of my favorite bands but I’ll try to make this review as unbiased as possible. Through the magic of internet fairies I’ve been able to get my greasy fingers on the Hurley album a day before release. The quirky album with the lovable face of Lost’s Hurley on the front cover is scheduled for full release September 14, hmm the same day that Halo reach comes out…..coincedence, probably. The first track “Memories”, brings back nostalgia from previous Weezer styled sound from albums like Pinkerton. I had feared for a long time the band was falling into a way too pop college/high school kid sound and that still may be the case since I’m in that awkward age band. The rest of the album really kind of seems like fillers to be honest. No real chart toppers I can sense coming from these tracks but i could be wrong. When you wake up tomorrow bright and shiny and ready for some Hurley make sure to pick up the Deluxe Edition for a cover of  Viva la Vida, which is done really well. Until then I’ll be tapping my feet to “All my friends are insects”.   ( GO AHEAD AND GIVE IT A LISTEN OVER IN THE WIDGET BAR )
